Baraka , an Arabic word, translates variously as the grace or breath of God and is said to imbue works created with “le blanc Coeur” true inspiration.
Baraka Henna specializes in all styles of Henna Body Art. The company was founded in 1996 by Amaya Mattei. Baraka Henna works year round as the oldest Henna stand on Venice Beach and boasts many faithful clients as well as doing events and parties all over Southern California. Among it’s regular clients are Cal State L.A. ( Spring Fling!!) , Event Planners, production companies, Los Angeles Public Library programs,and many others. Baraka Henna has been featured on : CBS, KCOP, videos , films and still shoots.
Amaya has over 25 years teaching experience in the arts in a variety of disciplines that include art therapy, and has studies ethnic arts and art history as well as holding a California Lifetime teaching credential.
Raised in the South of France and born into a family of artists, Amaya’s pure Mediterannean heritage creates in her a heightened sensitivity to henna. Her connection to the Moroccan community , as a dancer she worked many Moroccan weddings!!, also has served to hone her artistic sensibilities to ethnic arts. Amaya teaches workshops and trains henna artists to perpetuate the tradition.
The goal of BARAKA HENNA is to educate the public about the beauty of henna as an art form as well as it’s rich cultural heritage. As a result of this Amaya specializes in traditional henna arts. Amaya believes that art in general and henna specifically can be used as a tool for opening avenues of communication between cultures and in this way break down cultural stereotypes and help to create a world where cultural differences are not viewed with suspicion, but rather relished and embraced.
